KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS:

That I, Jane Lathorp Stanford, a resident at Stanford Univeristy in the county of Santa Clara, State of California, am about to erect for the Leland Stanford Junior University, upon the campus or grounds of said University in the County aforesaid, a new University Library Building: that I have set apart a trust fund of three hundred and fifty thousand (350,000.00) dollars in the hands of Hessrs. Horace Davis, Leon Sloss and Joseph D. Grant, to defray the cost of said Building; and that I have determined upon plans and am about to let contracts and enter into obligations for the erection of said Library Builiding.

No THERFORE in order to have my intentions more conveniently and quickly carried out in the erection of said Library Builiding during my absence from California, I do hereby authorize and direct my brother, Charles G. Lathorp, Horace Davis, Leon Sloss and Joseph D. Grant, or any two of them, for me and in my name to make and execute any and all contracts for the erection of said Library Building, and for me and in my name to make any and all purchases necessary to the erection of said Building, and generally to do and perform for me and in my name and as my act, all things necessary and proper for the erection of said Library Building, to the same extent and with the same effect as if done by me in person.

Said Library Building shall be erected upon the plans approved by me but I hereby authorize and direct my said agents to cause said plans to be perfected and completed as to all details not passed upon by me, also to cause to be corrected any structural weakness or architectural imperfection which may be discovered in said plans or in the specifications for the work.

I hereby direct that the entire of said Library Building shall be kept within the said sum of three hundred and fifty thousand (350,000.00) dollars, and I hereby request and direct my said agents, in entering into contracts, to use due
