Dear Madam,

Accept in this your hour of
deepest sorrow, the profound sympathies
of a Methodist Minister - who has for years
admired the life and work of your
illustrious husband. May God sustain
you!

In harmony with Mr. Stanfords great
spirit to enlighten and elevate the generations
to be. I have desired to perpetuate
his memory and emulate his example,
though in an humble way in this place

Now with your gracious counsel - and
help the work can be wrought.

It is this to dedicate, on the part of his
friends, a Public Library and Reading-room, to
his memory, in the town of Boulder - an extra
prize begun already in a general way
