My dear Dr. Jordan,
I trust that I do
not seem remiss in not having
written to you sooner to express the
sympathy and grief I feel in the
death of Mrs. Stanford. It was
with very sincere sorrow that I read
of it. While all Stanford students,
realizing her great gift, must feel
her loss and regret it as that
of a benefactress and a generous
woman, it seems to me that those
who were there in the beginning,
who had opportunities to meet
both her and Senator Stanford
personally and to enjoy their
hospitality, who knew her courage
