Mr. Victor H. Henderson,
Secretary of Board of Regents,
University of California, Berkeley, Cal.
Dear Mr. Henderson:
It seems to me that perhaps an additional word is desir-
able this evening after our conversation by telephone to supplement this
and the letter I wrote you this morning.
I hope that the distinct points are clear -- 1st that certain of your
Faculty and Regents who are to be designated as honorary pallbearers should
be here early without fail. To this end they should start not later than
the 10:30 train from San Francisco. 2nd, the general delegation of Faculty
and Regents may perhaps come on the 11:30 train, but it is not desirable
that they should do so because there will be a great crowd upon that train
and the interval between the arrival of the train and the opening of the
service is very limited for the arrangement as to carriages and as to seat-
ing which circumstances oblige us to make.
I may add, too, that it is [now] possible that the Railroad will
put in a special section of the 11:30 train to leave the City at 11:00 or
at 11:15 -- If this should be done -- and public announcement will be made
if so -- your people would be safe in taking this early section of, if I
may call it so, the 11:30 train.
About another point: Is President Wheeler to be here so that he can
act as a pallbearer?
Very truly yours,
