Rt. Rev. Wm. Ford Nichols, D. D.,
731 California St.,
San Francisco, Cal.
Dear Sir:
I write to remind you that it will be important for
you to take a train not later than the 11 o'clock special
which will run that morning from 3rd and Townsend streets.
You may even find it more comfortable to take the 10.30
train. We are planning to have carriages meet all persons
specially invited for the funeral services.
It seems to me that it is highly important in the absence
of Chaplain Gardiner to have some one of the officiating
clergymen designated to have the chief responsibility and
supervision for the services. Such supervising clergyman
will probably have very little to do, but emergencies may
arise if some particular man fails to take his part promptly.
I hardly need to suggest to you from your experience that
something like this needs to be provided for. I wish that
you would please accept this position.
If it meets with your approval, I plan to have the Clergy
meet in the vestry somewhat early, and to be prepared to meet
the casket and immediate funeral party at the door of the
Church, and thence to precede them in the march to the Chancel.
