My dear Madam
How I do wish
I could see & talk with you instead
of writing this letter. I know your
good & kind heart would open
to me & my 3 little doubly orphaned
grand children - 3 dear little girls
8 - 10 & 12 years of age, left to me
by my sweet & lovely daughter
a widow like myself. Her husband
a dissipated man had run things
all they had & she died a poor
heart broken woman & I her Mother
as poor as she. I am no common
person my dear Mrs Stanford &
although miserably poor now &
almost at starvations door, I have
been raised a refined lady & expect
to die one as poor as I am.
