Paul and I took a bike ride down to the University of the Pacific, about 15 miles from here. The roads in some places were very poor, the recent rains having converted the road into one long, continuous pool of slush. In such places we dismounted and wearily walked around the impassible spots.

We had the usual adventures of the wheelman; viz; chased by several small mongrels, punctured tire, laid up for repairs which

necessitated an hour's delay, etc. etc.

From College Park (the University town) we rode to San Jose, about a mile away, and spent quite an enjoyable time rinding around viewing the city. It was my first visit to San Jose, and, of course, was interested in all I saw. It is a city somewhat like Sacramento only much larger.

We ate lunch here and then returned to the University. We went through almost all the buildings
