There are two classes here at Stanford, and, indeed at every college, which dearly love each other in an opposite sense. The affection of the Sophomores for the Freshmen is well known. Every time a Soph. meets a Freshie he elevates his nose into the upper regions so that he may not be tainted by the lower strata of atmosphere which the Freshman breathes. This shows the feeling of intellectual, social, and moral superiority which every ideal Soph. believes he possesses over the entering student or Freshman.

Jealousy of a very green hue rages in the breast of every Sophomore at the slightest advantage which the wily Freshie often gains over him.

Actuated by this ancient admiration for our lower brethren we Sophs. determined one night to break up a little social gathering which they were going to have. By spoiling their meeting we could assert our authority.
