Irving Ms. Scott of the Union Iron Works gave us a lecture on "Battleships" last Tuesday evening. He illustrated his talk with a great many lantern-slides. When he placed on a screen the picture of the founder of our Republic, the boys paused a moment in their enthusiasm, and some one yelled, "Who was George Washington?" Then every last fellow in that immense crowd answered:

"First in war, first in peace,

First in the hearts of his countrymen!"

And you know what always follows when that cry is given. The boys just shook the building with the stamping of their feet. If you do not know how it goes ask Claude "Who was George Washington?" He'll tell you.

Well I must close now. Be sure and write soon ("soon" means a few days).

Your loving son Jewell.
