My dear Mamma:

The week just closed has been the most exciting one since I entered the Sophomore year. In the beginning of the week the students were wrought up over the latest news of the war; in the middle of the week we held an exciting election of officers in the student body of the University; Friday the students were called together en masse in order to consider charges of fraud and corruption practiced at the election of Wednesday; and on Saturday the Faculty and the Senior class played its annual game of baseball. During the week moreover examinations were plentifully interspersed like pickles on a small boy's face. So, you see, the week was full of excitement.
