Stanford, Sept. 4, 1898.

My dear Mamma:

Well, here I am at the Dormitory writing my first letter home. We have a delightful room here. Even as I write the sunlight streams through the four great windows flooding the room with golden splendor. It makes a fellow feel grateful to everyone for permitting him to enjoy the beauties of this Sabbath morning.

We started in to work last Friday, and a sorry time of it we had. Of course, after three months and a half of doing nothing its tremendously difficult to begin to to something. But all things have a beginning, and Colleges are no exception.
