The weather down here as been superb during these last few days, only a trifle too hot if anything.

Last night we were going to have a great reception in honor of the young ladies of Roble, but out of respect to the memory of George Beckett, our Baseball captain and a prominent athlete, we postpone the occasion indefinitely. Beckett was a very popular man and well beloved by every one. He was a personal friend of mine, and I feel his loss severely. LIke Dr. Hoburn's loss, I feel that the University has suffered a sad calamity when it losess a really noble man like George Beckett.
