At six the sun looked down on a mothy collection of U.C. and Stanford men spelling and jesting for their respective colleges. The next morning Sol smiled and so did U.C., but Stanford, like the clouds of the morning before, wept great drops.

I shall try to come home next Friday for the Vermonters' but if I do not you must not be disappointed. I should like to go home very much by my work is very pressing. I've got to write several long reports on technical subjects, and those, I fear, will occupy most of my time.

How's the maple? and the olives? and the soda? Yum! Yum! Yum! How I miss 'em!!!
