My dear mother:

Your pleasant letter rec'd and the accompanying favor. I might add at this point that the said favor is rapidly disappearing and I doubt if there will be enough remaining to carry me home next week. Thursday we have a holiday here. It is Founder's Day, in commemoration of the great man who founded the greatest university in the west. I shall take advantage of the vacation to go home Wednesday afternoon and will be with you until the following Monday. I have a thesis or report to write on the Sugar Beet Industry of California and I shall occupy most of my time in the Public Library collecting material and compiling
