My dear mother:

Last week has passed like a flash, and brings vacation only six weeks away. Those students who have idled away the time prior to vacation must now work night and day to make up lost time. And during these long hot spring afternoons putting on extra pressure is not the pleasantest thing in the world. The heat is almost sufficating and makes hard work simply impossible. My room, which is the most cheerful room in the Hall during the cold weather, is, for that reason, a very undesirable location during the warm weather.
