We went through Mayfield on the run, and Mt. View, sleepy and lazy, poked its head out of doors to see what this big bus-load of yelling howling students might mean. The nearer we got to the place were we expected to see the U.C. rescuing party, the greater became our anxiety for the security of our capture; and the fellows could hardly keep patient. It would have gone hard with an equal number of U.C. students so enthusiastic we were over our prize and so eager to defend it. Well, at Alviso we met our fellows with the fence and not a U.C. coward in sight. And then what a yell went up when we found that the fence was indeed ours, and efectually beyond the power of U.C. to recover it!
