My Dear Mother:

The last time you heard from me I was a "barbarian," or, as it is abbrevated, a "barb." A "barb." you must know, is one who is not a member of a Fraternity. Last Friday night between the hours of 8 and 9 I became a Greek. Our Fraternity was installed at Stanford by Mr. no, I mean, Brother Maytham, my friend from Cornell, and Brother Stevenson of San Francisco. Friday was the last school-day of the college year. At 12:15 Friday, school closed and every student in college who passed his final exams. stepped up a peg and entered the class above. By 12:15 that night Beta Zeta Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity had entered Stanford University and five "barbs" were ushered
