Stanford, Dec. 17, 1899.

My dear mother:

The same old story, these days. Lots of work; little time. I have been busy of late passing exes and preparing my outline for the graduating thesis. I have passed off two exes, making up back work thereby, and feel somewhat jubilant and careless now. On Tuesday I make my preliminary report on the above thesis. On Thursday the University closes but I shall not be able to return right away. I shall have to take another examination covering back work and the preparation attendant upon this will necessitate my remaining here at the University
