My dear Mother:

Last week was a very momentous one for our Fraternity. In the contest for the presidency of the Junior class was a member of Kappa Sigma. The other candidates were, respectively, a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity & a well known non-Frat. man. Sigma Nu is one of the oldest & best established Fraternities at Stanford & it seemed like insolence, perhaps, for us to attempt to best her in a class election. But we did! Our candidate won out handily, getting 84 votes to the 30 of the other Frat. man. Of course, we were jubilant. Had we lost we would have been censured by all for attempting to enter college politics when we were so young as a Fraternity; but having won, we have received the praise of nearly everybody for our splendid work in electioneering & have been complimented for having in our midst so excellent a man as the one elected.
