I had been anticipating for a long time. We bought student tickets
1/2 hour before performance time and for 50 cents sat in the last
row of the top balcony of the new and beautiful Liederhalle. The
program was topped by Brahms' concerto for violin and cello (which
I know well and love) with two ot the best soloists in Europe -
Wolfgang Schneiderhan on the violin, Pierce Fournier on the cello.
This sort of quality might appear once in several years in America.
The second high point was a lively performance of a very colorful
and popular piece - Mussorgskys (Ravel's) "Pictures at an Exhibition."
It was a marvelous evening.

This weekend will be less hectic and a little more rest and study.
I hope. Tomorrow morning and afternoon I'm going to do some
long delayed shopping in Stuttgart. Then Saturday night I'm going
(about 8 couples from here) to the Ball of Nations in Stuttgart - one
of the bright student social events of the year and a chance to meet
other german or foreign students. Otherwise I'm going to visit
a couple of families in Beutelsbach and study and rest. Then
next Saturday we leave for our trip to Rome, returning if we wish
through Florence and Milan (where I may see Marcia) by Feb. 7.
So time continues to flash by and weeks seem full enough to
have been months.

More news again before I leave for Rome. For now.
Love,
George

P.S - Some matters of business. In case you couldn't read it above
the weekend expenses were - Food for 3 days, 2 nights lodging - $4-$4.50 each
160 miles each way - Train (round trip) $8.75 each
Extras (post cards, maps, prints, etc) $5 each
Total for weekend about $17-18 each
