Dear Folks-
Well it's now the last night before our departure on our big vacation trip. The
last several days have been a really frantic effort to complete all the work of the
quarter and also make the necessary plans and arrangements for the trip. And
I still have things to do - recopy my anthropology paper (which I just finished writing),
mount my third roll of film ( a lot of them came out pretty well, including some good snow
shots here on the Burg and a lot of pictures from our Black Forest trip) and pack!

I did get in the interview with mayor last weekend as you know from
my notes on some of the content of our conversation; most of the rest of the ideas are
involved in the anthro paper which I'll (the original draft) enclose for you to
read and type up if you think it's interesting to others (long as it is). In any case
send it along to Anne please, and be sure that it gets kept since it will be the only
copy I have (he always kept his papers). The mayor's home is really quite
beautiful- one of four new ones built on the edge of town (maybe 3 or 4 years old at
most), very large spacious rooms, very tastefully finished (grand piano, huge T. V. -
radio-phone- combination, lovely tiled bathroom, etc.) probably sell for $25-$30,000
in California, believe it or not. He and his wife both inherited some property so
it doesn't come out of his salary. They have two boys - 8 and 12 - and the whole
family is quite pleasant and the parents very interesting! The paper was
a fine occasion to get to meet and talk with them, and was also pretty interesting

A little more info on mail in Amsterdam write me

then after 3/19 write not to Koln (no office)
but to me

then after 3/28 change back again to here on the Burg.
O.K.? O.K.!! Sorry it's so complicated.

Got your letter today as you hoped Mom and Dad's too as witness the card
enclosed. Sorry I didn't send Pops a card - I should have but it's so easy when
you're busy to let things like that slip. Glad his party was a good one and that
he's apparently feeling better, and I'll try to send him card on the trip. Also,
got the $300 O.K. and now have a German checking acct. with what I don't need on
our trip.

Finished with finals now of course. Got an A in German (a B in conversation,
2 out of 6 units) and I hope an A in music, but don't know about that one. Won't
know anthro til I get back to Stanford in Calif, so you'll have to relax on that one - but
hope it's an A too.

I sent a box to you at the office today - by surface mail - 4-6 weeks. It's a gift
for the Roses, but you may open it to check for damage on arrival. Hope there isn't any
and will be guided accordingly in future shipments. Also - May 4 is right and your idea
a good one! Better go now - more letters from everywhere!

Love,
George
