distract they eye from the total effect of the archietecture. There are still
some of the old stained windows around the choir area. I have pictures to
show better than I can describe.

Back at Beutelsbach, Wednesday evening was one of the season's finest
concerts- one I had been anticipating for a long time. We bought student
tickets for 50c sat in the last row of the top balcony of the new
and beautiful Leiderhall. The program was topped by Brahms concetto for violin
and cello which I know well and love, with two of the best soloists in
Europe. This sort of quality might appear once in several years in USA.
The second high point was a lively performance of a very colorful and
popular piece. It was a marvelous evening.

Sat. night I am going to the Ball of Nations in Stuttgart- one of the
bright student social events of the year and a chance to meet other German
or foreign students. Then next Sat. (Jan. 30th) we leave for Rome, returning
if we wish through Florence and Milan by Feb. 7th.

Hi!.

Back in "plain old California, USA" and please excuse the MANY errors
I know I have made. (Still at it, as you can see). But this has taken
about 1 1/2 hourse with Dave reading to me as I typed, and I have rushed-
far more than George did, I fear.

He is really having a wonderful time though, as expected- and will probably
be talking about these six months for a long time.

As he sends more letters our way, I will try and type them in part,
at least, and send them on to you all.
