the stories - we've had some terrific discussions on existentialism in these first
3 days. I actually look forward to reading and discussing, and many others seem
to have found it equally exciting. I hope it lasts all quarter.

We haven't done much in International Econ. yet - met briefly to set a time
for regular meeting - Monday evenings to begin with, subject to change as conflicts
arise. I hope to finish one of the three books this weekend - my main reading load
should be done with in 2 or 3 weeks so that I can get on to reading Keynes for the
independent study I'll be doing with Tarshus. As for literature with Dr. Whittaker, it
too sounds like a good course. His lectures have been good so far and the reading list
is also good. I just hope we don't have a tedius final of identifying passages, etc.
On the whole the work load is quite a bit heavier than last quarter - Spindler was
conspicuously light in reading assignments, and music too though it required other
work instead - and both courses this time are giving a full reading load. It will take
some hustle to get everything done in the few weekday hours of study time available.
But when the courses are good it's fun to do the readings.

Our lecture on art history - medieval to Baroque - was very informative, though not
terribly excitingly presented. It was by a professor at Frankfort, and his English was
good, but very slow. He showed many slides, some of places I've already seen, and gave
much information of real value about the trends and concepts of the periods. I only wish he
could also have spoken about some post-Baroque art too - or maybe I should find time
to read for myself. For I've seen a lot already and a little reading could go a long way.

Last night Bridge and I took our bottle of Rhein-wein over to the Boerner's apartment,
and we spent a couple of very pleasant hours just chatting, etc - they thought the wine good
too, and were surprised that we had carried it all the way back with us on the bikes. I'm
glad we did!

Well, my dearest it's almost 4 pm, and we have a guest lecture on Berlin today, so
I've got to go again. I'm staying here this weekend, going to schorndorf tomorrow in a
group of 30 - to see the school, have dinner with a family, etc. Otherwise it will be
mostly study and basketball, I guess. I sure wish you could be here to share the
wonderful spring with me darling. It's such a perfect time of year, and so much more
spectacular here than I've ever seen it before. And spring is such a special time of love
too - I can understand better what spring fever means now. It would all be so much
more complete if I had you here to respond to it with me - though at least you can
enjoy the season at Stanford while I do here, and thus we really do share its
beauty. But oh how much more beautiful it will be to be in your arms again once
more! I love you so much sweetheart and I hope the days fly past until that
June 11 when I'm back with you for real!
All my love always,
Your George
