Hi Darling -

Well, it's still the 21st and so I can wish you a second happy
10 months anniversary! And this time not quite so rushed as on this
morning's post card from Brussels.

We had a really wonderful drive this afternoon from Brussels to here -
we are staying tonight in the youth hostel in Vianden, a fairly small
town at the eastern edge of Luxembourg, just a few miles from the
German border. We came right across the middle of Belgium from
the northwest toward the southeast, though Namur, Marche en Fammenes,
and Bastogne. It was all just beautiful, even in the steady light rain
which we drove through. At first it was lightly rolling countryside, with
large green fields of grain or truck crops bordered and separated by
sections of forest - lush and tropical in their thick undergrowth as before
As we came further east, the hills gradually became more pronounced and
the forests became increasingly groves of pines, darker green in
contrast to the light green barley fields. Oh darling, it is such beautiful
countryside, and the little towns full of brick buildings (stone
more often in eastern Belgium) are just as neat, clean and handsome
as they can be, dotting the greenhilled countryside.

And Luxembourg is even more fantastically beautiful than Belgium. The
minute we left the last town in Belgium, the traffic dropped almost to
nothing, and on all our driving we met about a car every 5 minutes.
The border itself was just a single guard in a little shack (who gladly stamp
our passports on request), and all the towns are small and quiet. We zig-zagg
toward the north, then east and south along the eastern edge to Vianden. Tomorrow
we'll cut back westward to Ettelbrück then straight south into the city of
Luxembourg. Distances are all very small, but the hills and forests are gorgeous,
and so completely free of the tourist atmosphere. The roads are smooth, but
