and decided by a large majority
not to have it. It was also decided to
omit the September meeting as it conflicts
with the County Fair, and have
a meeting in November if the members
desire it. The Brook Grove meeting was
postponed until March so as to have
a 25th anniversary meeting there, where
our first meeting was held after organizing
at Stanmore. Our President hopes
the members will prepare to make it an
interesting occasion.

The readers, 1st reader Mary E. Gilpin
read an article on the asparagus beetle
recommending air slacked lime. Dr. Magruder
mowed his bed sowed salt and advises
burning weeds and rubbish on the bed
to kill eggs or larvae. 2nd John Bentley
an article going to show that bees are
not destructive. English sparrows are accused
of puncturing the grapes and
thus making them attractive to bees.
Various examples were cited where bees &
grapes flourish together, Samuel Hopkins
and John Bentley appointed to investigate
the subject and report at the Oct. meeting.
John Bentley very willing to undertake
the grapes if Samuel Hopkins will
take the bees. Some persons are successful
in raising grapes by using paper
bags which are tied on when the grapes
are half grown.
