to learn. - We feel that his place is vacant.

All the meetings of this year were held
except the Exhibition. A small Chrysanthemum
show at the Lyceum, was enjoyed by
some, - and the exchange of varieties
useful, - but the weather was stormy
and it was found that October 25th
is too early for a full bloom.

Mary Magruder was appointed Assistant
Sec. this year. Mary L. Moore married
Joseph W. Tilton April leaving the
neighborhood.

1888

March 1888, is the anniversary of the
first regular meeting of the "Horticultural"
twenty five years ago. In reviewing the
Quarter of a Century that has passed
in the life of our Society, we see that we
have journeyed pleasantly together; - with
our share of sunshine, - and the sorrow
of one, has been the sorrow of all, - for we
have truly, been as a united family.

And now, we are compelled to begin a
new era, without one of the chief pillars
where on our structure was founded.
Francis Miller, whose name was first
in this history, - must be the last , for
it closes with his life, and stands
as a Monument to his Memory!
The good that it has done, was due
to the life, which he, first gave it,
