H/10/1896 -1.

October 1896

It is proper to state that the meeting
for this month was omitted, owing to
the devastion of the storm of Sept 29th
between the hours of 10 and 2 in the
night. None of us who heard the wind
can ever forget the deafening uproar,
nor the chaotic sight that met our
eyes next morning all through
the neighborhood and for miles
around, trees were broken or blown
down, cattle shed unroofed, chimnies
injured, and barns leveled to
the ground. Owing to the time of
the storm, there was very little loss
of life, human or animal, which
was such a cause for thankfulness
that we could not grieve over inanimate
losses so much as might have been expected.
Your Secretary is such a "Stay -
at - Home" she can not go into particular
descriptions, Suffice it to say
that each individual suffered
greater loss than any other!
