The September meeting of the Horticultural
Society was called to order rather
later than usual as all seemed reluctant
to leave the beauties of the porch
and grounds of this lovely.

As the secretary and assistant-secretary
were both absent Mary S. Hallowell was
appointed Sec. pro. tem. After the minutes
of the meeting at Woodburn were read
and approved, Warwick P. Miller as substitute
for Robert H. Miller read an interesting
article on "the raising of mushrooms,"
which told how many thousands of pounds
of spawn are imparted annually and how
the beds should be cared for . The second
reader Sarah E. Kirk read an account
of the discovery of the American Beauty
rose The first bush was bought for
$5.00 and sold for $5000.00. Dr. Kirk read
an article "Science the Florists aid" which
described the discovery of a means of destroying
violet insects by fumigation
