Alban G. Thomas was not present but
contributed an article which took the
Horticultural by surprise as it advocated
the unpopular theory of allowing
weeds to grow until fall. Several
reasons were advanced for holding
such an opinion, but great stress
was laid upon the fact that decaying
vegetation is a prolifice source of all
material troubles and that weeds cut
down in quantities along roads and
in unused fields during July and
August and left in the hot July become
a menace to health, while if left
until after frost they can be disposed
of with safety. Very little was said in
opposition, but the wise shake of the
head from different ones meant more
than many words.

The Forethought committee advised
sowing turnips seed in the early part
of this month and Kale the latter part,
and reminded us that it was time to
start plants for the house in winter.

Specimens
Falling Green, tomatoes, cabbage, cucumber.
corn, potatoes, Lima beans.
