Norwood
Sept4th 1899

Rockville Fair opened on Tuesday
Sept 5th so the Horticultural met on
Monday in order not to inconvenience
those who wished to attend both. The day
was a beautiful one, clear, cool and bright
and Norwood opened its hospitable doors
to a large gathering of people. The meeting
was of special interest as it was
understood that resolutions would be passed
to show how dear the late President
Henry C. Hallowell was to the members and
how truly they appreciate the loss they
have sustained in his death. Rodger B. Farquhar
called to order and then opened the meeting
with a few well chosen words which made even
strangers understand the sorrow of the occasion.
The following memorial was then read and the
solomn hush which succeeded showed the deep
feeling of all. A motion to place the memorial
and resolutions upon the minutes and to send
a copy to the family was seconded and carried
after which Mrs. Farquhar read the last note
ever written by our President a message of Love
to "the Horticultural" at Rock Spring July 4th 1899
