Woodburn
July 1st 1902
We assembled at about the usual
hour which is quarter to half an hour
later than the appointed time.
The minutes were read and accepted
1st Reader Lilly Stabler read "The
growing of plants; the rose, it seems
is given the preference by the Western
people and in the East the Chrysanthemum
is favored, especially by the
Chinese. The progress in horticulture
since Washington's time has been very
great. 2nd Reader absent.
Forethought urged the neccessity of
destroying weeds with hand and with
hoe. Cabbage should be set out
now, for fall and winter use. As
corn is used the ground can be
prepared for late cabbage. Set out
celery from 15th of July to 1st Aug.
It is said that carrots and beets
planted now for the winter are much
more tender than those planted early
Mrs. Davis appointed to try the plan.
