April Friday 16th 1880

Cool in early morning but very warm
later in the day. Drive Milstead horse
& Polly to the Germantown Wagon over to
Homewood to see cousin Hannah
Afternoon drove them to Fulford
& took grindstone to have it "turning"
properly - Eliza Thomas daughter of
Wm Thomas. colored. here for med &^c
Made a "Rubber" to smooth over
the lot & break up the clods &^c
Clarley drove "Count" to Jill Smith's
to see about hay, at noon.
Ernest called in the evening
Thunder gusts (two of them) passed
north of us after bed time.

Clear High Wind
54^o Saturday 17th
The gusts that passed around us
last night have left the weather
much cooler & brought back the wind
again."Rubbed" the lot faithfully
much improving it in appearance.
Afternoon drove over to Riverside
brought home & planted four
magnolia trees or bushes that
came originally from old "Athol
Cottage" and were planted by my
dear father. Walked up to the
store after tea. Eliza Thomas
here for advice & medicine.

April Sunday 19th 1880

Beautiful morning spring-like
and calm. Started to go to meeting &
finding meeting "settled." Came home
again. Charley drove to Fulford.
Afternoon we all went to Riverside
after "arbutus" and succeeded in
finding quantifites of it in the same
spot where I used to gather it 25
years ago. called at the cemetary
as we came home. It has been
a lovely day & I have enjoyed it
much. Ernest called. also Lucy
Stabler. Charlie went again to
Fulford in little buggy, driving
"Count"

56^o Monday 19th

About home all day do not feel
well. Sent word to Millstead
that I would keep the horse I
have had on trial. fixed around
the house. Chas F. Brooke sent
me a load of timothy hay. Ed P.
Thomas called. also Harry T Lea
Ernest here in Evening.
