66o Cloudy and Showery E
September Tuesday 7th

Gentle showers throughout
last night and cloudy and"sprinkley"
all morning. I rode on horseback
to Riverside to meet Dr Riggs, who
did not come. took Jim with
me on "Polly" and he brought a bag
of apples home with him.
Walked to stores and smithshop: had
crow-bar dressed. Was called
after night and went on horseback
through drizzling rain to
attend Mrs E Lauford (miss carriage)
Charly rode with me
home before 11 o'clock: tired
and worn out.

62o Cloudy and Drizzle SE
Wednesday 8th

Disagreeable rain and drizzle
Rode on horseback to Riverside
and Colebrook Farm. Gave "Polly"
horse to Mr Ernest Lawford
he to have her "put out of the
way
" whenever she is of no
use to him. She has been so
faithful to me that I cannot
bear to sell her to someone
who would abuse or ill treat her
since she has gone blind. on a
farm, she may (with propper care)
be useful for some years yet.

60o Rain Rain Rain
Thursday 9th 1880

Very rainy day for my 52nd
birthday cold and raw
, but
much needed to fill up the
fountain heads Every where
I feel quite unwell having
taken cold in my recent night ride
in a drizzling cold rain. This has
been a real old fashioned rainy day
it having come down steadily
all day
. Fortunately up to this time
(6 pm.) I have not been obliged
to go out: indeed I could not have
turned out without risk of serious
injury to my own health.

50o Clear NW
Friday 10th

Beautiful day but cool and
some wind blowing. Charley went
in the "Germantown" to Asa Stabler's
and brought the Club targets. I drove
to Homewood taking Dora with me
We brought Alice Peirce home with
us. Archery Club met here in
the afternoon, only 16 persons here
owing to the "Rockville Fair being
in progress and this the first day
since it commenced that was not
storming. Edwd Sullivan here
for advice .
