Drizzling Rain & cloudy until
afternoon when it cleared
off. I drove Harriet down
to Leawood Mills & called
at Riverside. Charley drove
to Ashton at noon, to Sam
Budd's just at dusk and
went away again after supper.
God knows where.

56 Clear and Cloudy S.E.
Wednesday 6th

Feel quite unwell with a
cold in my head bones &c.
Sarah Stabler called for advice
&c. for Maryanne. Charly
drove to Brighton. I to Ashton
and Sandy Spring. Walked up
to the store after tea.

Drove to Ashton & Sandy
Spring (Count in open buggy)
Henson Johnson here & went
down the well to fix the pump
but did it no good. it leaking
when water gets below lower
joint, at the joint. Afternoon
took little buggy to village & made
Jim wash it. bought new set
of good second hand wheels
for it from Sam Budd $(8.00) he
to put our new steel tires and
"boxes" into them besides some
new spokes at above price.
After tea Charley went to N Fulford
& Bloomfields Jno Hall
(colored) here for advice & med for his
son.

Friday 8th

Startarted early after breakfast
in the "Germantown" for Laurel &
the "National Fair". Charley & Ernest
with me Reached Fairgrounds at
10:30 am. Saw "St Julian" trot in
213 1/4. Also saw "Sleepy Tom" Little
Mack" William C and other famous
pacing horses besides. "Chester"
Lady Sargent. Pilot Boy, Ldy Gold Dust
and other trotters. Reached Laurel after
dark & home about 8.30 p.m. I had
bad headache but went with Philip
Johnson to see his mother down
on the River. home again about
midnight.
