Nov: Saturday 6th 1880

About home most of the day -
rode "count" to shop and had
off hind shoe tightened. Joseph
Moore (of Nathaniel) here & had a
tooth extracted. Bernard Gilpin
& Frank borrowed "Milo" to
go after partridges. Charley & Jno
Bentley got another "Beagle" from
Leonard Stabler to take to "the
Mountains" Harry Lea called at
"dusk" to see about board for
Helen & himself for a time whilst
she needs treatment.

Sunday 7th

We had a terrible "cyclone" at
eleven o'clock last night, the like
of which I never witnessed on land:
it blew down our tall kitchen chimney
onto the Roof with a noise like
thunder-: the house vibrated until I
felt confident it would go over into
the turnpike, it blew the shutters off the
west gable & threw them "all around"
took down the fences & shook down plastering
in almost every Room, frightening
us almost to death. Harry & Helen
& baby came to stay with us sometime.
Charley drove to Brick layer Johnson's
for him to come & Re build chimney.
&c Charley & Harry drove to Fulford.
Jno: C Bentleys' horse & carriage were
blown "heels over head" coming home from
a party: truly miraculous he was not killed
outright.

Monday 8th 1880

Philip Johnson came & rebuilt
kitchen chimney. I drove to Rockville
to attend as witness before
"grand jury" in "infanticide" case
jury being incomplete Judge dismissed
the witnesses until tomorrow
at 10 o'clock a.m. Willie went
with me. Afternoon I repaired
the fence to front yard. Sister
Beulah spent an hour or two
with us. Harry came about
dusk in time for supper. After
tea Charley drove "Major" to Bloomfield
Ingleside &c Susanna
Nugent here for advice & meds

Left home again for Rockville in
open buggy, taking Willie with me
succeeded at last in getting before
the Grand Jury just after dinner
came home arriving about sundown.
Harry came about teatime.
Ernest called after tea & we had
some music.
