Dec: Saturday 4th

Drove to Ashton and got "saussage
cutter". 1.35 Harry went to Saml
J Hopkins mill to "fix" machinery.
Eliza Bentley called also Hallie Lea
and Mary Gilpin. Jno Bently sent
the "Germantown" home after having
front axle mended at Ents'.
The end of the Engine & boiler
house at the steam mill caught
fire and furtunately was seen in time
from our house so that I put the
fire out with a bucket of water.

42o Rain and Cloudy Variable
Sunday 5th

Rainy disagreeable day. Charley
and Harry went to Leawood Mills.
Charley taking Helen & baby to Fulford
first in phaeton with both horses
they were gone all day. Frank Snowden
called. Will Gilpin and Jno Bentley
here & took Charley with them: he
going in the buggy with "Count"
to Rockland and Fulford. Harry
went & brought Helen & baby
home.

Monday 6th

Ed: Davis (colored) here for advice
for his hand. I drove to Ashton &
Sandy Spring. Lucy Stabler spent part
of the afternoon here.
Annie Rounds her & washed for
Harriet. Helen & Harry went to
Bloomfield after supper.
S Crawford here for advice for
his child. I feel quite unwell
having taken cold. Charley went
to Jas: Stones to offer to sit up with
him but was not needed and
returned before 10 o'clock.

Tuesday 7th

Weather feels extremely cold
owing to the sudden change and
the wind blowing strong from the
N.W. Richd Bentley and Mary Roberts
went to Rockville notwithstanding
the cold. I drove to Ashton. Harry
went down to the mill. Richd went for
him and both went to steam saw mill
at C H Brooke's. I mended window
shutter in spareroom. Annie Rounds
here and ironed for H. Jonas and I
cleaned up the double harness.
Charley spent the evening at home
for a wonder. Sent Jonas for Willie
from school. I fixed "alarm" clock
in Dora's room.
