48° Ther. SUN. MAY 8th, 1898. N.E. Wind.

An exceedingly disagreeable
rainy day, raw & chilly, the wind
blowing strong from N.E. Edwd
went to meeting, which was very
small in consequence of the weather.
Harriet, Edwd & myself
spent most of the day by the open
fire in the dining room reading
and writing letters. E was to have gone
for Dora who went to "Fairfield
yesterday with Willie & Fanny,
but it was too stormy to turn out
unless it was absolutely necessary.
It stopped Raining about sun set, and
there was some clear sky in the west
but the wind is still East & N.E. and
cloudy everywhere except a narow
streak in the west, above the horizon.

Clear & bright at last.
Ellen Stabler called to see Dora
before she came home from "Fairfield".
Edwd having gone for her
this morning. Afternoon Edward
went again to "Fairfield", calling
at "Spring Dale" as he went over.
A colored woman (a servant at Walter
Brooke's) was here to see me.
Charles Stabler also called to see
me about his man (Henry Powell)
Edwd got home from "Fairfield"
after dark. I went to the toll
house after supper.
