61° Ther. MON. MAY 16th, 1898 Variable. Wind.

Clear early this morning, but about
8 - 30 there came up a thunder gust
which lasted about an hour & passed
off. I went to Fairall's shop for my
shoes. Miss Alice Tyson & her childs
nurse Ida __ and the two little boys
came for advice & Med. for the nurse
and both the children. Afternoon
we had another thunder & hail storm
about 4-oc'lk: the hail did much
damage to vegetation. I gathered
up (with a shovel) 4 buckets full
of hail, in a space 10 - or - 12 feet
square with which the Roberson's
folks made ice cream. We had
still another heavy thunder storm
before sun set as severe as the
second one but with little hail
Lizzie Scott called. Phil Robison
put the telephone horse in our
stable for the night. I went
to the store & P.O. Old John
called here. Went to the toll house
after supper. "No news" from our squadrons
or the Spanish fleet.

Clear
