59° Ther. WED. MAY 18th, 1898 NW & S.E. Wind.

Another beautiful day. I went
to Ashton & back before dinner.
Recd letters from "Fidelity Mutual
Life Insurance Association of Philad
enquiring about Dr R Brooke, and
answered it, also a letter from Thos.
H. Borden, and by Express by Stage
a pkg. containing an elegant fur
lined overcoat from T. H. Borden.
Afternoon Edwd drove up to "Fairfield"
and back in time for supper.
After supper I went to the Mill
for some corn for the horse, and
to the store & P.O.

Cloudy & clear.
63° Ther. THURS. MAY 19, 1898; S.E. Wea.

Edwd & Dora drove to Laurel after
and earlier breakfast. the latter to go
to Philadelphia to make a visit to
her aunt Harriet Kirk. E reached
home again about one o.clock.
It had been much warmer to day
& toward evening we had another
thunder gust. There were two "trials"
at Esq. Fairall's. one of a colored
man ("Henry Green") who broke into
Saml Bond's store on Sunday
night last. He was sent to jail to
await trial at Court; the other
was a foolish "assault case" among
the darkies & was "dismissed".
I wrote to F. Tyson by afternoon
mail.
