68° Ther. TUES. JUNE 21st, 1898. Variable Wind.

Clear & cool. I felt quite unwell
this morning & indeed all day.
Edwd & H did some work in garden.
Afternoon I went to the mill for
horse feed, & after supper to the
toll house. & heard of the arrival of
the transport ships with our troops
off Santiago Cuba, (15000 in number)
with the establishment of telegraphic
communications direct from there to
Washington, the troops will be landed
as soon as possible, & joining the
naval forces, capture Santiago.
The weather is extremely cool
for the time of year.

It was so cold last night that
we were obliged to sleep under
blankets. Edwd finished trimming
the hedge. I went ot the
P.O. and to Fairall's office.
Old John was at the office for
advice & medicine. Afternoon
Edwd, drove to "Fairfield"
expecgting to stay all night. there
being a rehersal of a play in which
he is to take part, for the benefit
of the Episcopal Church, and to
build horse sheds at the church.
After supper I went up to the
toll house.
