This has been an exeptionally
hot day "from morning til night"
although there has been a breeze
from the South which rendered
it bearable . Edwd & I went to
meeting & heard a sermon from
Edwd Farquhar: I went over to
Hurleban's & found their little
girl much better - I also went
to the village & to Henderson's.
"John Ed" Hill's wife was buried
to day, having died at John Hopkins
hospital. Henry Palmer
(a brother of Albert Palmer) was also
buried to day in Friends cemetary.
Henry Butler - (colored) was at the
office for advice & medicine for
inflamation of one of his eyes.
Our troops are no doubt fighting
to day at Santiago Cuba, and will
find it "hot work" in more ways than
one I fear. As soon as Spain is driven
out of Cuba the war should cease, as
was promised by Congress when it began

Clear & Cloudy
Ther. 79o MON. JULY 4th, 1898. Wind Variable
Another extremely hot day.
I went to the store & P.O. and to
A. Farrell's office. Afternoon we
had the heaviest storm of rain
wind & thunder & lightenings it
commenced about 2-36 p.m.
& lasted for several hours, the
rain fall was heavy & will do
an untold amount of good.
Frank Hopkins wide sent for
more medicine. I was called
in again & prescribed for the
Hurlebans child. The war
news to day tells of the capture
or destruction by five
of Admiral Cervera's Stauch
fleet & the probable surrender
of Santiago de Cuba but
at great loss of life on our
side. Mrs Robison was here
after supper.
