Quite cool this morning.
Afternoon went to the mill
& to the store & P.O. This morning
Dr R Brooke called at
the office. Willie came to
supper & took Alice Peirce
home. Edwd went with
Mrs John Bentley & Catherine Brooke
to Olney Grange to practice
a duette with Mrs B. After
supper he went over to
"Cloverly". I went to the toll
house.

Ther. 62o TUES. JULY 12th, 1898. Wind N.E.
Cloudy & threatening rain
all day. I went to the smith
shop & took another tine for the
phaeton wheels. We hear that
Santiago de Cuba is surrounded
by our troops under "Shafter"
& must surrender within 24
hours if they have not already
done so. Geo. Miles has arrived
at the front door, but Shafter has done
the work, as did "Schley" in the
naval battle of "Cervera's" fleet.
After supper Edwd went with
Mrs John Bentley to Olney
Grange to contribute to the
musical entertainment.
