This beautiful autumn day
is my sixty ninth birthday
one more year will complete
my "three score & ten" which is
the scriptual limit of life.
I drove to Ashton & back.
Cornelius Hart called also
Frank Hewitt. Afternoon "Alex"
Lunsford arrived form Lincoln
Va. driving Charley's horse & dayton
having left Charley's this morning
& reaching here about 3.35 p.m.
After supper E took Alice Peirce
home. Mrs Amos Holland commited
suicide with a revolver.
Thomas Lea is extremely ill, and
not expected to live many hours
Willie is to stay with them at "Eldon"
tonight.

Ther. 57 SAT. SEPT. 10th, 1898 Wind N.W.
Edwd (in the phaeton & Alex Lunsford
in C's "dayton" left here to meet
Ida & the children in Washington,
they will leave the horse at at
Kensington. Old John came & cut some
wood for us & helped fix the stable
ready for the horses tonight. Willie
came about lunch time.
I went to the store & P.O. & also
to Esq. Fairall's office
Just about dark, Mr Thornton Nichols
called at the door and soon
after Edwd & Alex arrived with
Ida & the children; they were
almost chilled through by the wind
having commenced slowing at
about sunset almost a gale
from N.W. After supper Edwd &
"Alex" went to the little
meeting house.
