Ther. 35o WED. NOV. 30th, 1898 Wind Variable
Edwd came home about 1. o'clock
this a.m. from the entertainment at
"Highland". It snowed more or less
nearly all through last night, but
was soft & wet so that it did not
accumulate to any depth, being
only about 2 1/2 inches this morning
and was nearly all gone by
sun set except in spots making
the traveling bad with slush &
mud. I went to the store & P.O.
Wrote & mailed letter to F Tyson
by the 2. o'clk mail.
The recent storms have been
extremely disastrous to shipping
all along the Atlantic coast
of the U.S. many lives lost and
numerous wrecks of sea going
steamers & sailing vessels.

Ther. 33o THURS. DEC 1st, 1898 Wind N.W.
J Janey Shoemaker's house burned to
the ground this morning, taking
fire from a flu in the 3d story about
5. o'clock the alarm was sent over
the telphone wires, & neighbors
soon gatherd & saved most of the
furniture, but they lost clothing
& almost everything in the 3d story
including some beds & c. Walter
Iddings took dinner with us. I went
to the store & P.O. Towards evening
Henry Johnson (a young colord
man) was here to consult me.
I mended a broken rocking chair
back one in which all of our
children were rocked when infants.
