Cloudy, Mist & Rain
Ther. 37o THURS. DEC. 22d, 1898 Wind N.E.
This has been an extremely disagreeable
day. Mud under foot & dampness
all around. Was sent for to
Oldfield's early this morning &
found the old man suffering from
an "apopleptic" stroke, (the third
within two years past) & from which
there is little hope of recovery.
I went again to see him before
noon. Willie came after me to
go see little Dora, I went
with him & he brought me back.
Henry Johnson (a young colored
man) was here & I gave him a
certificate to enable him to get
into "Garfield Hospital". Went
again to Oldfields before supper.

Clear
Ther. 42o FRI. DEC. 23d, 1898 Wind N.W.
Clear & bright this morning and
continued so all day. I went
to Oldfield's several times in
the course of the day & evening.
The old man is slowly passing
away, but clings to life with
wonderful tenacity. Willie
& Edwd came from "Fairfield"
driving my horse to the phaeton.
Willie hitched him to the buggy
& drove to Oakdale & back
before lunch time. Afternoon
Alice Peirce came & took Willie
back to "Fairfield". The baby
is much better today. We recd
a present of a nice turkey ready
dressed. I am extremely anxious
about my friend Frederic
Tyson: not having heard from
them today: only hope "no news is
good news". Went to mill for
flour.
