*This summit is stated in the Geological Report of Michigan published in 1839 page 49 (to be 121 ft above L. Michigan; but this is evidently too low. In that report the Little Chute is stated to have a fall of only one foot and a half whereas Capt. Cram ascertained by "instrumental survey" that to improve the navigation of Fox river at that place it is necessary to overcome a descent of thirty one feet; and on seven rapids below Lake Winnebago he reports a fall of 119.689 feet.
