340 Calumet

a road has been opened from this point to Milwaukee, thus affording the citizens of Fond du Lac a choice of Lake Ports at which to [do] transact their commercial business.

The town system of government has been adopted. The counties of Calumet and Marquette have been attached to Fond du Lac, constituting towns in that county- but they are now organized as separate counties. The towns at present organized are three, Calumet, Fond du Lac, & Waupun.

Calumet lies at the north east part of the county, on the east side of Lake Winnebago, adjoining the county of the same name, and extending to the south line of township sixteen. A number of German emigrants have recently settled in this town, and a village is laid out on Lake Winnebago called "Calumet Village"
