and we have [as] yet, no evidence that the ancient inhabitants of this Continent were acquainted with the nature and property of the arch. Aztalan, according to Homboldt is the ancient name of the country from which the Aztalan of Mexico emigrated; and as this is described as lying far to the north, a little fancy only was necessary to suppose that it was the Rock river country- hence the name Aztalan.
A small steam boat was built at this place in 1841 intended to run on Rock river.

Aztalan a town in Jefferson County embraced in the following limits: begin at the north west corner of the county and run east nine miles, thence south six miles, thence east [three] miles [inserted line scratched out] [thence south four miles thence] [inserted line scratched out] west to the west Branch; thence down that river two miles, thence to the beginning. It contains much excellent land, especially along the river. Rock Lake lies near the centre of the town. Population in 1840 was 250. The first settlements in Jefferson county were commenced in this town in 1837 [6?]
