Ball River (Called also [P du Cross or?]) Embarrass River, Wazi-oju of Indians a considerable stream entering the Mississippi from the north east a few miles below the mouth of Black river. A beautiful prairie near its mouth called "Prairie du Crosse", supposed to have been once the bottom of a lake, was formerly much frequented by Indians for the purpose of playing at a favorite game with a ball-hence the name Ball River. This river is connected at the head by a short portage with the head of some branches of the Wisconsin.

Baltimore (New), a village in Iowa county on the West side of the Pekatonica seven miles south from Mineral Point 3 m. from Willow Springs, and nine miles east from Belmont, where there is a smelting furnace &c. at Junction of forks of Pekatonica.

Baptiste River, a small river which enters the Fond du Lac Bay of Lake Superior from the north.

Baraboo River. A river in Sauk County-enters Wis. a little above Fort W.
