* Bark River- Agreeably to the census of 1840 there were then in this town but 6 horses, 93 meat cattle & 250 hogs; the crops raised the preceeding year were 670 bushels of wheat, 200 of barley, 720 of oats, 1415 of Indian corn and 1885 of potatoes. There were made 3470 pounds of maple sugar; and there were two saw mills producing about $7000 worth of lumber annually.
